With this description, which is almost a painting, Guido Pioveni in 1955 showed Umbria, describing it in his famous radio program "Viaggio in Italia". A very current and fascinating tale of Umbria that was and is: of its airy landscapes, so beautiful that they have been defined as Raphaelesque, of its harmonious beauty, of the mild and welcoming vocation of the populations, of the great quality of its productions. An Umbria to be savored, fully enjoying the light air, good food, contact with nature and the rediscovery of ancient knowledge.
Unique among the Italian regions (peninsular) not bathed by the sea, hilly and mountainous, Umbria presents itself to us with a peaceful aspect, without dramatic colors. Most people only look at it from the angle of artistic and natural beauty. Foreigners have a very simple and very pleasant notion: a dense crown of small and medium-sized cities all beautiful, fused by the beautiful landscape and Franciscan memories, with a population with a graceful and sweet disposition. The attention of most people is held back by the conventional image, even if correct, of green and blue Umbria, Franciscan and Raphaelesque. Just go from Cortona, still in Tuscany, to Perugia to grasp a profound diversity of souls and landscapes. Tuscan beauty, especially in art, is more rigorous and abstract, and has geometry among its muses. The Umbrian one is softer, more diluted and more nuanced, with a constellation of cities on the heights (...). Although the whole history of art has marked Umbria, the dominant note is given by the sacred, civil and military architecture of the Middle Ages. From above you can contemplate landscapes like patinated, silvery green hollows, hills that slowly descend to the valley, bearing towers, bell towers, basilicas and monasteries. A landscape already so full of memories of art that looks like a tapestry or a painting. Clear sunsets, of a red without excesses, fade into the rocks and olive groves, amidst the sounds of bells and swallows. The light air gives a sense of physical euphoria. The population strolls on the terraces overlooking the panorama (...).
Due to its geographical location on the border, very close to Lazio and Tuscany, Ficulle is for many the gateway to Umbria. Here you will find this same Umbria, and also something more given the influences of the neighboring regions, especially Tuscany.
