Lakes

The lake has its own charm. It is wonderful to admire it while taking a walk along the lakefront, it is wonderful to cross with a boat, but the best thing is to admire it sitting on a bench, completely detaching yourself from the frenetic pace of the city. If you too love the lake and the feeling of deep peace it manages to convey, your next holiday in Ficulle will offer you the opportunity to visit three of them, all different but equally fascinating.

Chiusi Lake (35 km)

Lake Chiusi is a small enchanting lake surrounded by greenery, equipped with a picnic area and a play area for children and used for the sport of fishing. A pleasant place for a walk with children, who certainly will not escape the attention of geese and ducks, always looking for food. Near the lake there is a small restaurant, where you can eat among other things the specialty of the lake, the brustico. It is perch roasted on a coals of wet lake reeds. The "toasted" fish is served without bone in small pieces, seasoned with raw extra virgin olive oil, a little vinegar, salt and pepper.

Trasimeno lake ( 50 km )

Trasimeno is the largest lake in central Italy, famous for its postcard sunrises and sunsets. In summer it is a destination for tourists from all over the world, who love to stop on the large lawns of the lakefront, savor the cuisine based on lake fish and take a dip from one of the many piers scattered along its banks. There are many views that can be enjoyed from the different points of view of the various villages scattered along the coast of the lake, among which particularly noteworthy are Castiglione del Lago, Passignano and Tuoro sul Trasimeno. Inside the lake there are 3 islands, which are certainly worth a visit: the Maggiore island, the minor island and the Polvese island. The latter, with an extension of about 70 hectares, is the largest of the three and is a protected natural area used entirely as a science and educational park. During the summer, a day on the large meadows of the island offers an unforgettable experience for young and old.

Bolsena Lake (50 km)

Lake Bolsena with its 114 square kilometers of surface is the largest volcanic lake in Europe and the fifth Italian lake by size. It is located in Upper Lazio on the border between Umbria and Tuscany in the splendid Tuscia and dates back to more than 300 thousand years ago. Completely bathing and full of well-equipped beaches, it is the destination of many tourists every year, from all over the world. The villages overlooking the lake (among which the closest to Ficulle are Bolsena, Marta, Capodimonte and San Lorenzo Nuovo) all have an ancient story to tell and a very special charm. In its clear, clean waters rich in fish, the Bisentina and the Martana float, two beautiful islands, green and luxuriant that unfortunately cannot be visited, however it is not difficult to reach them and take a swim near them thanks to the numerous possibilities for boat excursions. There are also many sports activities that can be practiced both in the water and along the lakefront, where there is also a splendid cycle path. If during the trip to Lake Bolsena you decide to stop in one of the numerous restaurants on the lakefront, we recommend tasting the whitefish, a typical lake fish also known as freshwater sea bass which makes up 50% of the daily catch.
